Journal: I have now finished the Western Way and have two days of walking to link up with the Sligo Way.  I left the B&B at 9:45am for the roadwalk to Ballina, my destination for the day, carrying a packed lunch prepared by Barbara, the B&B proprietor, at my request since I don't have any snacks left.

The first part of the walk was along a regional road that carried a bit of traffic, and then I used back roads to Ballina.  It was a bit of a nothing day, passing by undulating green pastures, separated by stone fences or hedgerows, and sometimes occupied by sheep or cattle.  There were a few very old high-walled farmsteads falling into disrepair, but nothing to indicate their history.

I expected my feet would still be sore from the previous two days of long walking and they were, particularly the arch of my left foot, but with luck, shorter days today and tomorrow will let it recover.  By the time I reached the outskirts of Ballina, my feet were ready to call it a day, and I was happy to reach the B&B just before 4pm.  I managed to have a shower in time to watch the last few holes of the Irish Open, won by McIlroy, to the delight of the commentators while updating my blog and then ventured into town where I replenished my supplies and bought a tasty and cheap take-out meal for dinner.
